Engine, Gearbox and Mechanical Details

Documented 2020 Engine and Gearbox Rebuild

Silver Queen’s Perkins 4.236 four-cylinder diesel underwent a major documented rebuild in 2020, including machining, new liners, pistons, rings and bearings, crankshaft work and cylinder-head testing. The BorgWarner Velvet Drive 71C gearbox is also recorded as having been fully rebuilt in 2020.

Less than 650 engine hours are currently recorded following the rebuild. Power is transferred through a 1 1/4-inch stainless-steel shaft to a three-blade bronze fixed propeller, while the Vetus BOW12512D electric bow thruster assists with close-quarters handling and was confirmed operational during the 2025 survey.

The 2025 sea trial recorded 4.6 knots at 1,600 rpm and 6.8 knots at 2,600 rpm, supporting a practical and well-documented propulsion package for extended coastal and bluewater cruising.
